    Flags
A lot of people have asked me a lot of questions about Flags of our Fathers. I'm not sure I want to be the guy trying to drive people to go see it. I mean, don't get me wrong, I support it, I had a great time making it, working with Clint was fucking incredible.

I have this issue with watching myself. It's difficult. It snaps me out of the story, not least since I know everything that's going to happen. I can't be surprised, and I think surprise is one of the most vital components of losing yourself in a film.

Plus, you know, I'm not sure of the way anyone else looks at their own work, but I see every damn line I could have delivered better, every moment that doesn't seem genuine to me. We're all our own worst critics, right? Well, unless we're Kanye West. I don't think he frets over his work in the slightest. Probably bumps Jesus Walks in his car on the way to the studio.

I've been to the premiere of almost everything I've been in. I think I may have missed one at some point, as a matter of fact, I'm almost sure of it. Damned if I can remember which, though. It's a publicity event, and it's a courtesy to my coworkers. We made that thing, whichever thing we're talking about at the time, together. It'd be like a vote of no confidence in the product not to at least show my face. But you better believe I don't spend all my time entranced by my giant face on the big screen. Most of the time, I'm looking around, catching audience reaction, or in the case of The Fast and The Furious, watching Vin mouth along with the dialogue, the big fucking nerd.

    I kid because I care.

The thing we're working on now, Bobby Z, I'll show up, I'll sit, with a box of Goobers in one hand, and I'll watch it. But that'll be the last time I see Bobby Z. Don't go giving me a DVD of something I was in as a present, either. Wayne did that to me, sent me a hot off the press copy of Running Scared, and it went, unopened and re-wrapped, to someone else. Meadow's babysitter, as a matter of fact. She collects everything I do. It's embarrassing.

Hi, it's Paul. Leave your AIM name and a brief description of your perfect afternoon at the beep, and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

An AIM name suggestion for me wouldn't be out of line either. I'm just not that creative this morning.
